Set in the antebellum South, a book about slavery with a dystopian touch. Sometimes hard to read through the incredibly detailed abuse that happens throughout the book, but all in all an incredible read. Butler uses a time travel device which gives us a really different view on slavery, than any other book that concerns this topic would. As the protagonist travels back and forth to the antebellum South and the 1970s, we get to see a modern view on the past.
