Saffron Everleigh is an amicable and clever character, bright and eager to help. She holds her ground among her fellow male workers at the university. She’s drawn to mysteries like an insect to the light. Saffron always seems to put herself in danger, no matter the outcome. There never seems to be an easy way for her. This time with another mystery she wants to solve, started by her fellow workmate and amour Alexander Ashton. Saffron can’t deny the inquiry and puts her investigative skills into high gear.
Set in London around 1923, Saffron is constantly confronted with being seen as inferior to the male workers at the university. I admire her strength to take a position and improve her knowledge as a botanical researcher. Finding the truth in an unsolved case only encourages her to discover her boundaries and beyond.
I found the story gripping, the cliffhanger at the end came unexpectedly, and with the case solved I didn’t mind. With this end, the reader can expect a sequel in the future. Which I look forward to with great expectation.
