Emily Henry loves books. 📚
For an author of bestselling romantic novels, that should come as no surprise. However, Emily Henry also makes her characters love books or work with them, preferably both. On one hand, this is great because her books are read by—take a guess—book and romance lovers (hi, it is me!!😘). But after reading a few of her novels, it starts to get a bit repetitive (I want to say boring, but hey, treat authors with kindness 🌻).
This time, her heroine Daphne works in the children’s section of a library. She lives exactly the life you’d imagine for a young American librarian—she has a well-off boyfriend, they are setting up a fairy-tale house, and planning a sunlit future. But then! This ideal boyfriend runs off with his childhood best friend. And Daphne has to move in with Miles, who is—funny story—the ex of that same childhood friend her ideal man ran away with. 😱
Funny, you should ask before starting reading:
📚 It is a slow, slow, slow burn—sometimes too slow 🐌
📚 Forced proximity (roommates) and fake dating trope (sounds so good!!)
📚 Golden retriever boyfriend 🐕—Miles is cute, a Bridget Jones lover
📚 Sweet, cute, nice, no great drama, lama
📚 Supportive new friend and Gilmore Girls vibes relationship with mother
📚 Smut—one of the steamiest from Emily Henry, but experienced romance readers won’t blush
This is an ideal beach read. 🏖
It’s light, pleasant, with very good and charming banter. Personally, I prefer stronger and more dominant main characters than Miles. Although, I have to admit that his anxiety, panic, and complicated family relationships make him human. The same goes for Daphne, especially when she doubts herself or tries to resolve her relationship with her father once and for all. However, as a reader, I prefer bigger emotional outbursts and incredible twists.
Alhought this is not going to be my favourite book, I had a great and relaxing time reading it. 🍹 Thank you so much for the free copy!
