Donna Leon can give the reader an instant feeling of comfort. As soon as I began to read, I felt myself at ease. I’ve never been to Venice, what I know of the city is through reading Brunetti’s cases. It captures me every time anew, this time with a heartbreaking case, where little children are involved. The topic in this novel is thought-provoking and reaches much further into Venetian social life than first thought.
Despite the sad story, I progressed quickly, enjoying at the same time the culinary stops on the way.
