A worthy sequel to “Trail of lighning”
After the brutal fight on Black Mesa against a god, a trickster and his monster army the group around Godslayer (former Monsterslayer) Maggie Hoskie is divided. The choices Maggie had to make weren’t easy and not everyone agreed if they were the right ones.
But after Kai and young Caleb disappear under mysterious circumstances, the remaining group reunites in an effort to find them alive and bring them home.
With the disappearance comes a new threat. A fanatic leader they call “the White Locust” seems to have played a part in Kai and Calebs fate, and his followers are growing by the day. human and insect alike.
Another thrilling insight into the sixth world. The story is similary structured as the first part, with the reader figuring out conspiracies and character motives as they plot thickens. Of course there are epic fightscenes and showdowns with some gruesome details, as is to be expected after reading “Trail of lightning”
The selection of old and newly introduced characters is well chosen, without overwhelming the readers with new faces and information. (There is also a very cool suprise recurring character introduction!) We get to see life after the Big Water outside the protective walls of Dinétah and what a catastrophic flood like that can bring out in people.
The books picks up its pace rather quick and had me jaw-dropped and hanging on the edge of my seat by the end. This duology is very far up my fantasy favourites list with its badass main character, its exciting plotlines and sweet and sincere character interactions.
A Must Read for every fantasy/dystopian enthusiast who doesn’t mind some literary spilled blood.
