Phew, this is not the easiest one to review.
Though I did enjoy some parts of the book - namely:
✨ The way Olivia (the author) wrote about depression. Though I’m in no way an expert on this topic, I do think she handled it with a lot of respect and in my eyes very authentically.
✨ There were quite a few thoughts and scenes that I could connect with. It was actually funny how close some of the character traits were to me and people in my life 😄
Still, I feel like I’ve come to a point were I’ve moved on from the author’s writing style. For me personally, it’s a tad too quirky and the metaphorical way of thinking that we’re reading while stying in Athena’s POV got dull quite quickly unfortunately.
Also, the plot itself couldn’t really catch me. Though I enjoyed reading about flawed characters who were also trying to live respectful lives, I was just not invested enough, I think.
It might also be that romance stories tend to be too over the top for me most of the times.
I’m very thankful to Olivia Dade for introducing me to plus sized main characters in romance with ‘Spoiler Alert’ back in 2021, as I think it played a big part in me discovering my self-worth. I won’t forget the feelings, emotions and thoughts it evoked.
Nonetheless, I think this might have been my last book by her I’ve read for a while.
If you’re a reader who enjoys quirky romance and are interested in stories about plus-sized MCs, then I highly recommend this book.
