A feeling of being on an endless rollercoaster.
An experience, followed by another and another which leads to….. a completely new approach to the classic horror story. You’d better stop overthinking, just read and dive in.
I know the author from the Harry Hole series, I didn’t know that he is also a well-versed horror writer. Releasing it right before Halloween was well thought out, it fits well into this season.
I appreciated that he doesn’t leave clues that take the reader out of the flow, not a stop-and-go feeling. The story slowly picks up its pace and gets more turbulent and twisty with every page you turn. Sometimes I had to read carefully to acknowledge the various experiences the main character had gone through. With this story, the author has drawn from the full and hasn’t missed a chance.
Despite the loaded story, I was a bit surprised about the abrupt ending, I had expected a more revealing ending.
I hope this journey into the horror genre is not Nebo’s last one, I see the potential for future books. It’s nice to see when an author tries to take a step outside his comfort zone.
