The story plays in Syria, almost a year after the protests begun against their regime. Salama just finished her 1. Year in pharmatology school, but saves lifes at the hospital. Layla, her sister-in-law and best friend is living with her. They’re planing to go to germany, to escape the war and to give the unborn child of Layla a chance to live a safe life, even though Salama isn’t ready to give up helping those she can at the hospital. Untill one day Kenan appears in Salamas life and changes her perspective.
You’ll see Salama trying her best to save lifes, but also how she struggles with her well-being at night. You’re going to see her at her best and her worst, full with hope and yet with agony. Zoufla Katouh will show you a world full of terror, heart-wrenching destenys that are also happening in real life. You’re about to read a book about a revolution seeking for freedom, a city being destroyed and people doing the best they can to survive. Besides the horrific happenings in the book - it’s filled with hope, romance and the love of the syrians for their country. I recommend having tissues nearby while reading - it’s not an easy book to read, it will get under your skin, but it’s a very good written book. Once you’ll start reading it, there’s no way of putting it down. Zoufla Katouh knows well how to describe the scenery, the happening and the characters. You’ll connect fast with them and you’ll feel what they feel in the book.
I’m thankful for the chance of getting to read this book! It is eye-opening about what’s happening to the civilists in syria, and what our western media won’t tell us about them. It is an hard-to-read-book, but it still has one of my favourite romance-scenes in it from the past few years of reading. I can’t say I enjoyed this book, but I’ll keep it close to my heart and will re-read it again and again.
