“A man who finds his masculinity threatened by a powerful woman is no man at all,” he says. “You want someone who lifts you up, not tries to bring you down.”
This is one of my absolute favourite books. I’m a huge fan of Tricia Levenseller and her books. They are always feminist meets warrior, like… love that stuff.
Rasmira is the first woman to ever take part in the warrior trial. She’s not really liked in her village, even though she’ll be the next chief, if she is able to survive the trial without getting bitten by one of the monsters in the labyrinth. Because she’s the best warrior in her squad, she ends up getting betrayed by someone who’s very close to her, as well all the boys in her squad because of jealousy. She gets cast out into the wilderness and given a quest she has to complete to get back into her village. And her father gives her one, that’s impossible: She has to kill their god, who comes twice every year to collect his tribute.
In the wilderness, Rasmira learns to trust people again and how important it is to have friends, not just subordinates. And the most important thing she learns is that a woman can come in many forms; A warrior, a housewife, a healer. And that all of them can be feminists.
Tricia Levenseller’s writing in this book is phenomenal. It’s quickpaced and you really can see how she starts to grow as a person. And, to be honest, I just love female warriors.
