“Thinking about history makes me wonder how I’ll fit into it one day, I guess. And you too. I kinda wish people still wrote like that. History, huh? Bet we could make some.” In preparation for the movie release, I really wanted to give this book a reread. The movie might not have been the shit, but this book is. Henry and Alex together are just the best couple ever. Their interactions just gave me the butterflies and I kind of stopped caring about the election and everything that went on apart from their story. And I just love how they kinda fall into their relationship without giving it much thought. Alex’s “coming out” was so comforting and just gave me so much hope that more of us are experiencing it like that. All the support they got when they were at the palace after shit hit the fan? It really made me cry all the way through the scene. Plus: We all know that the possibility of Texas being a democratic state are close to not existent, but let’s face it; It was a great ending and who knows? Maybe? Probably not, but maybe. It’s just a cute read, especially now in the summer. I was just really disappointed that I didn’t like the movie, especially because the actors in the interviews had so much chemistry.

This book made me so happy. Romantic, charming, funny and absolutely bingeable. I enjoyed reading this book so much. Following the story of these two characters, seeing how they develop, how their relationship starts to change, how they begin to understand what’s happening and how they can’t help falling in love with each other was an absolute delight! And it’s not just a superficial romance, the characters really grow on you up to the point where you’d start a fight in order to protect them and their happiness. Alex and Henry are so adorable, each in their own way. It’s about attraction, about being young, having fun, understanding who you are and fighting for what you believe in. Beautifully written (keep your highlighters close, you’re gonna need them), strong and absolutely able to make you tear up or burst out laughing within just a few paragraphs. This book is like a warm and fluffy (probably pink) pillow that makes you dream of a better world full of hope and love. And honestly, we need that. A heartwarming read that will mend something inside you, you didn’t know was broken.

** 4.5 stars ** / spoilers This is such a good book, and, in my opinion, the last third of it made it as amazing as it is. I particularly liked how the author implemented the political and societal themes into this very cute romance. Especially the whole conversation on how much we as a society should have a right to dictate the lives of leaders, monarchs, etc. -> very little imo, if their way of living doesn’t harm anyone. Yes, we should be able to challenge each other on things we do and say but there needs to be a relationship or at least a mutual understanding in order to talk into someone elses life like that. The whole ordeal with the leaked emails portrays how the media and the people in real life still think EVERYTHING on people in the spotlight is fair game. HOW ON EARTH is it okay to share private emails with the whole world? I get that something good came from it and many people actually supported Alex and Henry after seing the whole media coverage on it, but still. I find it disconcerting how we believe stars and other public figures ‘owe’ us insight into everything and anything regarding their lives. This book did a lot of things right since it had me questioning and grappling with a lot of things. Not least the question whether the way they threatened the Queen was the right way to go about it. I know that in some cases people tend to see sense earlier if you pull something like that, but then again, I’m not sure if them making a decision out of fear for themselves and/or their future is the right motivation for doing anything that (ought to) hold significance. Aside from all the politics, etc., I enjoyed reading about Alex and Henry. Both aren’t perfect and both learn and grow as the story progresses which I always love to read. It also helped that I could relate heavily with Henry on many things, and I LOVED the banter. So, as I said, I really loved this story and will probably mull over things for the next few days and weeks.

Der Prinz von England und der First Son müssen wegen eines peinlichen Vorfalls vorgeben, beste Freunde zu sein. Eine mit viel Witz verpackte Enemies-to-Lovers Geschichte. Der Roman ist die perfekte Mischung zwischen Politik, Literatur und Humor. Die zwei Protagonisten, beide anfangs zwanzig, tasten sich durch das öffentliche Leben, wobei sie Politik und Liebe zu vereinen versuchen.
