THE SECOND NOVEL IN THE RECORD-BREAKING, MILLION-COPY BESTSELLING THURSDAY MURDER CLUB SERIES BY RICHARD OSMAN----------------------------------------------'Moving, hilarious, brilliantly suspenseful' Jeffery Deaver 'A thing of joy' Kate Atkinson
“Ooh, I love”…. Joyce Meadowcraft! She’s sooo sympathic and a truly unique character! A devoted friend to Elizabeth, Ibrahim and Ron. (Sometimes, sidekicks are even better than protagonists, e.g. Barbara Havers, also one of my favourites). Anyway, reading through the diary of Joyce is so entertaining. Her experience as nurse shows and she is wise beyond years. She obviously has a way of convincing her friends like Ibrahim. Unfortunately, the retired psychiatrist gets beaten up and ends in hospital. Just as he was trying to overcome his hesitance towards getting out and about. His fears return, and he even stops driving his friends around. During the end of the novel he is explaining to Joyce why he sees himself as defeated and will stay at Coopers. He analyzes Joyces attempts to get him back on track, but she just says: “Would it be okay if I might say just another thing…” and the next we know is that she has won him over and he’s driving her to the animal rescue center to pick up her new dog Alan. Joyce is even on Instagram now, she had to pick a certain username, because everything else was taken already (@GreatJoy69) and is wondering how she gets into her private messages, them piling up to a thousand….. Her daughter finally solves this riddle. Anyway, it all starts when Elizabeth gets a letter from a dead man and discovers her ex-husband is in trouble. She decides to help him and soon realizes she’s in the middle of a conspiracy corrupting agents from her old employer. And now’s the question: who can outwit who? Involved are: 20 million pounds worth of diamonds, the mafia, a local drug seller and suspicious mothers, including trips to Antwerp and a show-down plotted by Elizabeth. I wasn’t sure if I would continue with Osman after reading the first one. I mean, it was fun, but I had other books on my night table. But it would have been a real pity if I hadn’t! The sequel to “Thursday Murder Club” is worthwhile and I enjoyed it thouroughly. If you are looking for a good read for your holidays or during hot summer days, that’s just the pick of the day!
