Auf New World leben nur noch Männer. Ein tödliches Virus hat alle Frauen vor Jahren umgebracht. Dasselbe Virus hat die Gedanken aller Menschen füreinander hörbar gemacht. Somit ist es niemals ruhig. Doch Todd stösst draussen im Moor auf einen Fleck Stille. Als er deswegen fliehen muss, muss er auch alles, woran er glaubt, in Frage stellen. Mit einem Hund, einem Buch seiner Mutter (das er nicht lesen kann) und einem unbekannten Gast auf dem jungen Planeten kämpft er um mehr als sein ¨Überleben. Dieser Science-Fiction Thriller ist nicht bloss nervenzerreissend. Er füttert dir ein kleines Geheimnis nach dem anderen, sodass dein Hunger stets grösser wird. So düster und so gut! Ich bin mehr als begeistert. Zu Beginn braucht es ein wenig Angewöhnung an den Dialekt und die Gedanken der Menschen und Tiere, aber sie machen das Buch wirklich aus.

The knive of never letting go is a terriffic start to a great Trilogy. Todd Hewitt is the youngest and last boy to become of age in Prentisstown at almost thirteen years old. In a settlement where the women all fell ill and died and in a world where every thought a man utters is visible to everyone around him, it is hard to keep secrets from one another. When Todd finds a girl in the woods, his worldview gets shifted and to protect her from the Mayor they have to flee. A dangerous cat and mouse chase unfolds. For me this book was an absolute pageturner, the way the chase was written is gripping. I especially adored the way the thoughts of certain characters reoccur, as thoughts sometimes do, and how some can utilise their ‘Noise’ ( thoughts) like a weapon to manipulate others with it’s repetition. If you like dark distopian-esque childrens/young adult fantasy that doesn’t hold back it’s punches, this one is definitely a keeper.

Prentisstown is not a personal city. In Prentisstown, everyone can hear each other’s thoughts. It’s still possible in Prentisstown. Nothing remains hidden. But the enemies of Prentisstown keep a terrible, a monstrous, inhuman secret. Prentisstown is the city of the damned. When Todd, the conflict rights man, comes across this secret, he has only one choice: to escape. Todd is running for his life. The idea of the story is really exciting and good. BUT the writing style and the really frequent repetitions make it difficult to get into a comfortable reading flow. Sometimes things are repeated so often that one might think it was a mantra. Not just words, but entire contents are repeated in this book. So I didn’t really get excited.
