The book starts with our female main character, Aly, who is a trauma nurse. Having so stressful work, she has a secret hobby to relax, watch masked men thirst traps on social media. She ends up sending one of her favourite videos of her casual fuck buddy, asking him if they could try something like that. He tells her no, and that he has someone who he is planning to start a serious relationship with, ending their situationship. After this he shows this message and video to his roommate, making fun of it and calling her freaky. Josh is that roommate, who is our male main character. He has a secret from his roommate, so when he sees the video, his video. He is secretly doing a masked thirst trap video for social media and now knowing the woman he met together with his roommate is into his videos, starts his obsession with Aly. Their story progresses in an interesting and a quite natural way, even though it is a bit unorthodox and their chemistry gets hot really fast, without making it seem unrealistic. Their bantering together is one of the many highlights of the story which kept me entertained from the beginning until the very end. There were even some plot twists that I didn’t see at all coming, until they exploded in the pages to my mind. I read this book as an audiobook, which was my first one and I must say, to get full enjoyment from the story you must do it like that too. Both narrators for Aly and Josh were perfect in their chapters and it made me believe they really were them. I recommend this book for all those who want a bit darker tones in their books, without going completely crazy or to those that are just getting into dark romance books. I will happily give this book five out of five hearts!

Ich habe selten so gelacht, mitgefiebert und gleichzeitig einen Cool Down gebraucht wie bei Lights Out von Vanessa Allen. Dieses Buch ist eine perfekte Mischung aus Spannung, Humor und unerwarteten Momenten, die einfach für sich sprechen. Es handelt sich um eine Dark Romance, doch was die Autorin hier schafft, ist bemerkenswert – trotz der düsteren Themen und intensiven Emotionen fühlt sich die Beziehung unglaublich natürlich und harmlos an. Die Charaktere entwickeln sich auf eine Weise, die nicht nur fesselt, sondern auch jede Menge Lacher und unvergessliche Szenen hervorruft. Der Humor ist dabei so clever und situativ, dass man ständig zwischen Schock, Lachen und Nervenkitzel schwankt. Die Situationen mögen in ihrer Intensität surreal wirken, doch Vanessa Allen schafft es, diese mit einer Leichtigkeit zu erzählen, die die Geschichte fast schon zu einem Liebesabenteuer macht, das man so schnell nicht vergessen wird. Der spice in diesem Buch ist nicht zu übersehen, und er gibt der Geschichte die nötige Würze, um den Leser immer wieder in den Bann zu ziehen. Es ist ein richtig gelungenes Buch, es hat mich rundum begeistert! Normalerweise brauche ich bei meinen regulären Fantasy-Reihen 2-3 Bände, bis mich einer der Hauptcharaktere wirklich komplett fesselt (anhimmle, sabbere, verliebt bin). Dark Romance war ich noch nie so hin und weg, doch bei Josh war es liebe auf den ersten Blick, OMG, wie gerne würde ich ihn in der realen Welt haben! Es gibt diese Charaktere, die einfach etwas ganz Besonderes sind, und Josh ist definitiv einer von ihnen. Seine Persönlichkeit, sein Humor, und seine unerwarteten Seiten haben mich von der ersten Seite an überzeugt. Es ist fast schade, dass es solche liebenswerte, lustige, kümmernde Stalker nicht im echten Leben gibt! Hoffe es kommt bald auf Deutsch raus, aber eine absolute Empfehlung wenn du auch englische Bücher liest.

General: If someone told me before I read the book, that I’d be squealing and kicking my feet for the Faceless man, I would’ve probably laughed. I don’t annotate books - EVER - but this one? I stopped almost all 10 Pages to make a note on my Tolino. Detail: The Character depth, the emotions and the way the world is set up is just prefect. It is very fast paced, but I love it. The relationship a whole storm, everything moving fast but nonetheless I feel like it’s right. John and Aly move fast, but please… who can resist a man like John? Yes he’s a bit… protective and controlling, but he makes up for it. Loving, sweet, funny as hell and twisted. The relationship may not have started as the healthiest, but it is much more healthy than most of my past relationships. Which is, considering it’s a dark romance book, probably not the best sign. In short: If you like a Golden Retriever x Black Cat relationship and are kinky as hell, this book is MADE for you. — READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS —
