The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas is a collection of prequel novellas to the Throne of Glass series. Although it is set before the main story, I would personally recommend reading it later in the series, as some emotional moments and revelations have a stronger impact that way.
Sarah J. Maas has an addictive, easy-to-read writing style that keeps the pages turning effortlessly. Beyond the action and adventure, this book explores themes of loyalty, freedom, fear of the unknown, love, betrayal, and the choices we make when certainty feels safer than possibility. The characters are flawed and human, capable of both admirable and frustrating decisions, which made me deeply invested in their journeys.
Rather than presenting clear-cut heroes and villains, The Assassin’s Blade offers morally complex relationships that invite reflection. It asks thought-provoking questions about courage, control, and what it means to choose your own path, even when the future is uncertain.
For me, this was much more than an entertaining fantasy read. It is an emotional coming-of-age story about identity, trust, and the difficult process of growing into the person you want to become.
