Despite what the title might suggest, ‘The Wedding People’ is not really a romance, although love and relationships do play an important role. It’s more about hitting rock bottom, finding the will to continue, and allowing life to surprise you in the most unlikely place. And accepting that a new beginning can appear in the most unlikely place. To be honest, I expected a funny wedding story with chick-lit vibes. The beginning was much darker and more emotional than I had anticipated. Personally, I found a few parts slightly long-winded, especially some of the flashbacks to Phoebe’s past, but it probably helped understand her journey better? The writing is easy to read, witty, and full of small observations about life, marriage, identity, and loneliness. It is perfect for readers who enjoy character-driven stories with emotional depth, humour, and a hopeful ending.
