If you love Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice as much as I do, then this book feels like a long conversation with your best friend. It is both familiar and comforting, yet still manages to surprise and delight.
I watched the BBC series first and knew I wasn’t ready to leave this story behind. I wanted to spend more time with these characters and this world and this book gave me exactly that.
As much as I enjoyed the series, I loved the book even more. Janice Hadlow’s writing is beautiful and elegant, yet wonderfully accessible. Most of all, I became deeply invested in the characters. I shared their joys and their sorrows, celebrated their triumphs, and felt their disappointments. By the end, I cared for them so much that I even found myself in tears.
A wonderful companion to Pride and Prejudice and a treat for anyone who has ever wondered about Mary Bennet’s story.
