First of all, it is recommended to have read the first book of the series, The Gilded Cage. Although the author reveals some tidbits about past events from the first instalment, they may not be sufficiently conclusive.
In short, Faye Adelheim fights to keep what she’s built and her dearest safe. Whoever threatens her or intends to bring harm has to be aware that they have to watch out for her. If they don’t play by the rules, then why should she? The time of feeling suppressed and treated as the weak one is over.
Like the first book, I could have read this one in one go without pause. It’s so easy to dive into the story, and the characters are very amicable. A pleasure to see those powerful women bond together as a united force against the unjust. There’s no other way than to follow, because you want to know if they will succeed in one way or the other. Good, that there will be a third book coming, as the end was a bit inconclusive for my taste.
