Going into Hunt the Villain, I wasn’t sure what to expect from Vaughn, the White Mask. In the Legacy of Gods series, he was mostly just mentioned, and we only really got a glimpse of Yulian in Kiss the Villain.
Vaughn and Yulian first meet at fifteen in a Bratva camp: Vaughn from New York, the “perfect” heir, and Yulian from Chicago, who is constantly made to feel like he’s not enough. After being punished, they’re sent away together, which leads to an attack that changes everything. Injured and hiding in a cave, Vaughn takes care of Yulian and that moment becomes something neither of them truly lets go of.
Years later, New York and Chicago blame each other for what happened. Yulian believes Vaughn abandoned him, while Vaughn has been carrying his own version of the truth all along. Their story turns into a back-and-forth of anger, misunderstanding, and undeniable attraction.
What made their relationship so compelling to me was how layered it felt. Behind all the tension, there was history, pain, and so much unsaid emotion. The fact that Vaughn still showed up for Yulian in ways he didn’t even know about made everything hit even harder.
Their dynamic is intense, messy, and addictive: exactly what I want from a dark M/M romance.
Vaughn and Yulian were incredible, and their story had the perfect mix of tension, emotion, and depth.
