It came out nearly 50 years ago, but with a writing so modern, addictive and timeless, it might as well have been published last week. An astute observation of society and the story of a woman who gives her all to keep everything running, knowing full well that no one will ever thank her for it. Buchi Emecheta manages to incorporate so many important themes in an already tough story without turning it into a tragedy.
