When I started seeing this book everywhere last year, I didn’t think it was for me, based on my first impression of the cover and the title. As someone who mostly reads historical fiction and fantasy and the occasional contemporary novel with heavier themes, this seemed like it wouldn’t be for me. I could not have been more wrong. I loved every minute of this book and read through it in the span of 2 days. The writing is sharp, witty and just the right amount of deep. It didn’t matter that I am 13 years younger than the protagonist, or that I’m nowhere near getting or being married (still haven’t really figured out how to be a proper adult). The novel was relatable on a deeper level than that. It left me feeling hopeful about life but also intensely aware of how easy it is to forget that nothing in life is certain and that change is scary but also ever present.
