oh, I loved it, it was so much fun. I’m just not sure how much of it was intentional. But there are so many great things going on in this book. Even crazier when you consider the low number of pages. Carmilla is a fantastic antagonist, I was rooting for her the entire time. Her relationship with Laura, the main character, feels timeless and could easily be plucked out of this 150 year old book and placed in a contemporary novel about a toxic love story. Le Fanu definitely had some amazing ideas and visions on how his creepy vampire story should look like. But I fear he struggled to convey these visions in a way that also work for the reader. A lot of great characters and plot lines get teased, only to be immediately forgotten or never mentioned again. But add a little humor and you’ll have yourself a brilliant read. A must for any fans of vampire, monster and ghost stories.
