Triggered by an abrupt ending, confusion and a sense of loss, this book is about love, marriage and personal growth.
I am about the same age as Belle’s children, which allowed me to read this book with a special insight and also to understand my parents’ divorce (which also took place at the beginning of the pandemic) from a different perspective. It is tenderly written; we (as readers) can feel the love, confusion, loss and anger from the safety of our sofa. I find it remarkable how Belle deals with such a break-up and also how she writes about it: emotionally, but still objectively.
It’s important that we talk about these things, that we give space to the pain, anger and confusion (but also the love and longing that don’t disappear overnight). This book is for anyone who is divorced, or perhaps has divorced parents, or wants to read a beautifully written memoir by a strong woman.
