This book is is categorized as Young Adult and allegedly suitable for readers aged 14+. I don’t think that the people who categorized this book have actually read it.
To me this is an adult Dark Fantasy about vampires. Bloody, violent and oh so seductive. But not in a Romantasy kind of way. More in a „let me entice you so I can drink your blood“ kind of way. Tigest Girma has an incredible talent to describe her vampires. She sticks to the lore but gives them her own magnificent twist which makes them irresistible. No cheap tricks or overused tropes. Just creative world building and a well crafted plot full of secrets. Thank goodness I didn’t have to read about another immortal that abandons everything he’s ever cared about just because he has a crush.
I adored the murderous FMC. She’s unpredictable and frankly, a little off the rails. Every character has their own agenda and you’re going to have a really hard time guessing their motives. And if this book is still not in your cart, then let me use these last few lines to gush about her gorgeous writing. Yet another reason why I can’t believe this is YA. Simply to tell a story, it wouldn’t have been necessary to hit us that hard with such powerful sentences. Go and get yourself that book.
