I chose this book because I found the setting combined with bee-keeping turned into a fantasy story interesting. Also that fiery cover did its part.
I found that style of writing amazing and horrific at the same time, and some parts revolting. So much so that I was glad to not be there myself on this island. When I started to read the first pages, I wouldn’t have thought that the story would eventually lead to this conclusion. The only thing that I was sure of, was that the story wouldn’t be finished, as The Last Beekeeper is the first instalment of the Vespling series.
The end isn’t too abrupt, it’s conclusive and it leaves you wondering what could happen next. I’m satisfied with how the main plot ended, despite the sadness involved which has also shocked me a little. What I liked about the epilogue is that it reveals only slight hints of what could come next. Those hints are enough for me to read the second book as soon as possible.
