The writing was good which made it easy to read, but other than that – oof. I’m sorry, but we did not need this book. This duology would have been better off as a standalone with more chapters. It is very well written, like the first one, but the plot simply makes no sense, it’s drawn out and boring. Everything that we loved about the first book is gone. The focus shifts to storylines nobody really cares about and so many things get mentioned without ever being addressed any further. Some of the most interesting characters get benched for almost the entire story just to make some random appearance at some point of the book. All that said I haven’t even mentioned the romance and how it was butchered, to the point where you don’t even care anymore. The letters lost all their meaning, as well as half the plot lines of the first book.
If you had hoped that all those loose ends, all those questions and briefly mentioned details you based all your theories on, would be tied up, answered and explained, then you’re in for some disappointment. Since nothing was truly of any consequence.
Neither worth it nor necessary.
