Patricia Campbell, a southern housewife, is living a boring life with her husband and 2 children, participating in a boring bookclub readin boring books. She takes care of everything plus her senile Mother-In-Law, who is slowly getting worse. But then a new bookclub is formed and now it is much more exciting, since its focusing on true crime and wine. Patricia thinks to herself “It would be exciting if something would happen here, in our neighborhood¨!”
And then she gets attacked by an old lady and gets to know the old ladys nephew, James Harris. James Harris has a bag of money, no documents and his eyes hurt when looking in the sun… But is he really the man all the husbands adore? Or a drug dealer? Who is he?
The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires is quite a title. But its awesome, it made me mad and happy and sad! The characters, who are “just” housewifes, are well written and all different. Through the new bookclub, friendships are formed and the women realize how important these are. They discover how strong they are and everything thats happening is really testing their limits. But not just the bookclub, in my opinion other characters are very interesting, too. Looking at you, James Harris! I was really questioning myself, is he really evil or did Patricia go a bit too far in her true-crime-occupied mind?
Find out yourself! 😉
