While reading the 3rd part of the “Stranger Times” series I constantly thought: “I can’t wait for this to be made into a movie!” I need this crew to become alive on screen! Oh please let me know instantly if some of you is up to date with it!
I only recently came across this series and was so lucky with my timing since the newest book came out last week. I could read all three of them in a row. This was so much fun. And this is only what books can do: Teleport you to a place where everything is possible! Especially when based in Manchester, a city obviously famous for its above average amount of rain and other bothering phenomenons. If you have read the first two episodes I don’t have to introduce you to Vincent, Grace, Stella, Ox and Reggie, not to mention Manny. I was perplexed, frankly, to learn that Hannah had left the newspaper on the first few pages. Her replacement though seemed to have an quite successful approach to Vincents issues. Although he himself wasn’t as quick-witted as usual and this worried me. I missed his cynical but deep at the bottom of his heart loving and dedicated attitude. It seemed as if he had lost himself mourning his late wife. So now the rest of the crew has to set on an mission impossible to save him from being devastated. The enemy is the same group we have met in the first book. And their goal is still the same. I don’t want to spoil it for new readers so I won’t go into detail.
What I can say though is that I admire McDonnell for his writing skills. He uses every trick to compose a plot filled with surprise and perfectly timed twists. You definitely feel his talent as a writer for comedians on stage. It’s a rather black humour but that’s kind of what I like most. His side characters like Cogs and Zeke show his passion and interest for unusual individuals. My conclusion: definitely worthwhile and really enjoyable.
