I bought this book the day it came out but then let it gather dust on my bookshelf. I just didn’t want to start it because I was afraid I’d be disappointed after liking her first book “The Love Hypothesis” so much. After much consideration I have decided that „Love on the Brain“ will be my first book to read in 2023. And let me say this up front, I am very glad I dusted the book off. I read it in 2 days (during which I didn’t get much sleep).
The book is about Bee, who joins a NASA neuroengineering project as a new co-leader. She takes over the neuro section but her other co-leader is Levi. She was in grad school with him and he made it clear from the start that he wanted nothing to do with her. Or at least that’s what she always thought…

This book grabbed me from the first page when we learned about her love for Marie Curie. Throughout the book Marie Curie has an important role not only for Bee but also for all women in the STEM world who don’t have it so easy. I thought it was great and also important to address how many women working in the STEM field feel. I also loved reading another book about science and NASA (it awakened the little astronaut in me). Bee and Levi both grew through the book and you learned more about them and their past, which helped you understand their behaviour even more. The relationship between them is just incredibly sweet, especially when you learn how it all began. You just realize how perfect they are for one another. Love on the Brain is written in a very light and fluid way. I think it is also a good book to read if English is not your first language.
You have to laugh, smile and also hold your breath (or slam the book shut because you can’t believe what you read).
Love on the Brain has everything you want from a book.
