What is there not to like about Cormoran Strike, the famous private detective?
Cormoran and Robin are once again investigating an unusual case out of their comfort zone, they have to address issues of cyber criminality.
To begin with, I was wondering what kind of case Strike would be taking on, indeed not only a surveillance project. Cases he has taken on so far, were never by the book, and I was elated that it wasn’t any different with this one.
And secondly, after the previous novel ended with not knowing if the two partners will come together, I was eager to find out if they will get a chance.
I have grown very fond of this series, mostly because these books are not like other series I have read. Cormoran’s sometimes rough manners and exceptionally investigative work offer a worthy change in the crime genre.
The story kicks off quite well, though a little long-paced. But as soon as the private detective accepts the case, that’s where the magic begins.
It is written in a way that encourages you to read between the lines, searching for hidden clues and who the killer might be. But the author doesn’t make it that easy for us readers. Even if there are many pages to turn over, we have to keep on reading until Strike reveals the completed puzzle with a bang.
In the end, it becomes apparent to everyone that Robert Galbraith, a pseudonym for J.K. Rowling, has done it again, she’s very well capable of writing beyond Harry Potter. With this series, the author has brought the crime genre to a new level, and it definitely deserves a place on every crime fiction bookshelf.
The author always surprises me with how much imagination he approaches the creation of the story. It never disappoints, it only reveals as much to keep you hooked.
In this novel Robin Ellacott impressed me the most, I think, in this case, she was capable to achieve her full potential, her investigative work is remarkable.
Readers who love J.K. Rowling will love it, humourous and filled with curiosities, definitely different from her usual writing but nevertheless a page-tuner to enjoy.
Don’t get reluctant by the sheer number of pages.
